Gustaf Brusewitz Takes Singles Title

Mosman Lawn Tennis Club has a new Men’s Open Singles Champion. In early July, recently joined Gustaf Brusewitz (pictured left) edged Peter Milharcic 6-3, 6-7 (7-2), 8-6 in what was one of the closest finals for several years.

Gustav joined the Club earlier this year and has been a regular member of our top Badge Team, so congratulations to him on his win.

Milharcic & Rossiter Win Men’s Doubles

A week later, Peter Milharcic appeared in his second successive final, this time prevailing, partnered by Gareth Rossiter, in the Men’s Open Doubles. The pair overcame Club President, John Scollin, and Tony Nix, 6-1, 7-6, saving three set points at 3-5 in the second set before taking the tie break 8-6, having been 1-6 down at one stage – thus saving eight set points in total before serving for the match at 7-6 in the tie break.

The third final saw John and Tony again up against the new pairing of Richard Cook and David McCallum. Although, Richard and David, arguably, played the more entertaining tennis, John and Tony scraped through 6-4,2-6,6-2 to retain the title they won in 2017.

Mosman Council 2018 Grant Confirmed

Once again, our resident expert, Ian “ the GrantMaster” Taylor, has been successful in securing further funding to help the continuous upgrading our facilities. We have received a letter from Mosman Council advising that they have granted us $2200 towards a replacement glass washer, the current being a relic from deep in the last century. The funds will be made available in early September. The total cost, including installation, will likely be a tad higher we will have to partly fund a small proportion when the time comes.

Badge 2018

Despite a recent defeat by Strathfield 6, following an earlier win over Western Suburbs, Mosman 2 lie in third place in the 2.5 league. This guarantees them a place in the semi-finals as they now lie over 20 points ahead of the fifth placed club with just two game to go.

US OPEN – Round Robin – Sun 2nd September

Members and friends are welcome to come along at 11.00am on Sunday 2nd September (Sunday 9th if wet) and participate in a round robin tournament and enjoy American style barbeque lunch – Hamburgers, spare ribs and delicious salads prepared and presented by our ….resident “Chef extraordinaire!” – Louis Miller

Further Donations

Furthermore, the Club would also like to thank members who have contributed various electric goods and articles to the club.
So, if members are ‘ de-cluttering’ and have some of those esoteric beverages that seemed like a good idea at the time but have rested in the cupboard ever since or just items (e.g. utensils, tools, kitchen appliances etc.) that they are planning to dispose of but which are still, we politely emphasise, in good working order and would be of benefit to the Club please let any Committee member know and if appropriate we’ll try to find a place for them.
