Update (August 3)

Dear Fellow Members,

Please find below the report from Ian Taylor updating on the status of the redevelopment

We remain fortunate with the weather, with rainfall well below the Sydney July average and although progress on retaining walls was slower than expected the project remains slightly ahead of schedule.

Tasks completed since the June report were:

  • Excavated electrical trenching and lay conduit on middle level except where access ramp intrudes
  • Excavated for light tower footings on both middle and lower levels and laid concrete footings
  • Continued construction of retaining walls on Southern and Eastern sides of lower and middle levels except where access ramp intrudes
  • Demolished existing fence along Northern boundary and installed temporary safety fencing between our site and neighbours
  • Excavated and laid footings for the retaining wall construction along Northern boundary
  • Commenced installation of new drainage system on middle and lower levels
  • Constructed new perimeter fence on Western side of court 4

Tasks currently scheduled for August (in no particular order) as long as the weather remains generally favourable are:

  •  Complete all retaining walls
  •  Complete drainage
  •  Complete electrical work on middle level
  •   Install light towers
  •   Preliminary work on Courts 1 & 2 including tower footings and electrical trenches
  •   Raise Western wall on upper and middle levels by one brick to conform with storm water detention specification.
  •   Complete all fence construction
  •   Remove some or all of the access ramps as soon as possible

Courts 1 & 2 are currently out of action while light pole footings, electrical trenches, drainage and perimeter fence replacement tasks are underway.

We do not know precisely how long this preliminary work will take but will be advised by the constructor once that work has been completed and will then assess whether it is safe to temporarily recommence social play and court booking on those courts until they are ready for synthetic surface replacement.

Aug 2

Next concrete pour is due Monday or Tuesday next week if it is not too wet. That pour will include the Northern concrete retaining wall and so the actual Northern boundary fence construction should take place the following week, once the concrete has cured.

The temporary 1.9m high fence has been installed at the Northern end of Courts 1 & 2. (See photo below.)

John Scollin and Ian Taylor strapped tennis nets towards the bottom of the temporary fence to prevent balls from going underneath. Any balls that do go down to the construction site will be collected and returned from time to time when workers are on site. Please do not go into the site to retrieve them.

The existing fence poles should also be removed shortly, slicing about 295mm off the back end of those courts. These will be subsequently replaced over the next couple of months with a new retaining wall which will rise about 20cm above the top-level court height to stop water cascading to the middle level when it rains heavily and will have new fence posts embedded within it.
