Richard Cook Wins Men’s Special Singles
Mosman Lawn Tennis Club has a new Men’s Special Singles Champion. Continuing the trend of ‘you need to lose one to win one’, Richard Cook became our Men’s Special Singles Champion just weeks after narrowly losing in the Men’s Special Doubles final earlier in the season.
Richard overcame Eduardo Nebot 6-0, 6-3 in around an hour to take his first singles title – so congratulations, Richard!
Tan & Scollin Win Open Mixed Doubles
Finalists Wendy & John (Left or above), Nell & Peter
In the Open Mixed Doubles Final, Wendy Tan & Club President, John Scollin, took on Nell Cranfield and Peter Milharcic. Peter was appearing in his third final of the season but Wendy and John prevailed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.

Later in the month, Wendy and John carried on with the form they showed in the Open Final and repeated their feat by overcoming Di Shirling and Geoff Simpson 7-5, 6-4 in the Special Mixed Doubles. The result gave John a hat trick of Doubles titles this year.
Club Facility Upgrade Progress
As you will have noticed there has been considerable activity in the changing rooms and related facilities over the past 3-4 weeks as we make use of the various grants funds we have received. Flooring in the ladies clubhouse toilet was replaced, new toilet suites were installed and showers were refurbished (see photo). We still need to install in the ladies clubhouse area and finish off some painting and other finessing. Thanks for your understanding while these upgrades have been in progress,
Badge 2018 – Mosman 2  Runners Up in 2.5
By finishing second in the 2.5 Division, Mosman 2 earned a home semi-final. However, the Club’s Badge campaign came to an end in September, as we went down 6-2 to arch-nemesis Marrickville. However, congratulations to the squad led by Louis Miller – Peter Corrie, David McCallum, Richard Cook, Richard Brown, Geoff Halsall, David Hanson, Kevin Alker, Frankie Ling and Paul Toshack

Labour Day Round Robin
After several cancellations due to bad weather over the past few  months we finally got a Club Round Robin underway on the Labour Day week end. Thirty-two members and friends participated in a two division, four team format.Ian Taylor won the first division with half the matches played with David Hanson and the other half with Stephen Brown. The other division was won by Louis Miller (who simultaneously oversaw the lunch arrangements) and Tony O’Brien.

Just form a team of 6 with other like-minded souls to pit your wits against fellow members and guests across several rounds covering the arts and sciences, history and current affairs, sport, music, and entertainment.  Presided over by leading Northern Beaches quizmaster and radio broadcaster, David Stewart-Hunter (M.A. Cantab),

  • Cash bar and nibbles
  • Bring your own gourmet accompaniment to the wines on offer.
  • Expanded to 7 teams max
  • Prizes for the winning team

The details – $30 per person, Saturday Nov 3rd  – 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start.
Singles and couples are very welcome and we can organise a team for you. Please pay in advance to secure your seats. RSVP to register yourself or your team with David McCallum on davidmccallum88@bigpond.com and payment details will be sent.

Further Donations
Furthermore, the Club would also like to thank members who have contributed various electric goods and articles to the club.
So, if  members are ‘ de-cluttering’ and have some of those esoteric beverages that seemed like a good idea at the time but have rested in the cupboard ever since or just items (e.g. utensils, tools, kitchen appliances etc.) that they are planning to dispose of but which are still, we politely emphasise, in good working order and would be of benefit to the Club please let any Committee member know and if appropriate we’ll try to find a place for them.
